Overview

When you add a domain to Resend, you may see this error: The example.com domain has been registered already. This means the domain is associated with a different Resend account. A domain can only be active on one Resend account at a time.

Why This Happens

Common reasons a domain may already be registered:
  • A team member or contractor added it to a separate account.
  • You are logged into a different account than the one where the domain was originally added.

How to Resolve It

Check your existing accounts first

  1. Check with your team to see if someone is already using Resend.
  2. Make sure you’re logged into the right account.

Claim the domain

If the domain belongs to a different team and you can prove ownership, you can claim it through a self-serve process:
  1. Go to Domains and click Add Domain.
  2. Enter the domain name and submit the form.
  3. A prompt will appear explaining that the domain is in use by another Resend team. Click Start claim to begin.
  4. Add the DNS TXT record provided to your domain’s DNS settings to prove ownership.
The claim expires in 7 days. If you started a claim previously, you can pick up where you left off by submitting the same domain name again and clicking Continue claim. If you cannot add DNS records or need further assistance, contact Resend support.
